Top 5 Navigation Apps in France Q4 2020: A Sensor Tower Data Analysis

In the fourth quarter of 2020, France saw interesting activity in the navigation and maps app category. Sensor Tower provides a glimpse into the performance of the top five applications in this segment, presenting a mix of steady engagement and fluctuating download numbers.

Waze Navigation & Live Traffic experienced a notable increase in downloads towards the end of the quarter, jumping from 59K in early November to 97K in the final week of December. Weekly active users also saw an uptick, rising from 3.6M to over 5.1M in the same period.

Google Maps Go maintained a strong user base, with weekly active users hovering around 6.8M at the start of the quarter and peaking at 7M by the end. Downloads mirrored this positive trend, increasing from 53K to 71K from the start to the end of the quarter.

For Google Earth, downloads remained relatively stable, ranging from 29K to 35K, with the highest numbers recorded in the final week of December. Weekly active users saw a slight upward trend, moving from 238K in late September to 255K by the year's end.

The French app Mappy showed consistency in its user engagement, with weekly active users fluctuating modestly between 73K and 65K throughout the quarter. Downloads, however, saw a dip in early November before stabilizing at around 12K by December.

Lastly, GPS, Maps, Voice Navigation by AppStar Studios showed an interesting pattern. While revenue figures were modest, peaking at $215 in late November, the app's downloads and active users witnessed growth. Downloads more than tripled from 3K in late October to over 15K in mid-December, while active users increased from 15K to over 38K in the same timeframe.
